Jim Jack Damron, 76, of Ray, OH, died at 3:40pm October 6, 2008, in the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Chillicothe, after an extended illness. Military graveside services, conducted by the Ross Co. Veterans Honor Guard, will be held at 1:00pm Saturday October 11, 2008, in Grandview Cemetery under the direction of Haller Funeral Home. A memorial service will follow at 2:00pm Saturday at the Chillicothe Baptist Church, 14000 State Route 104, with Rev. Larry Ault officiating. Jim was born December 24, 1931, in Pikeville, KY, to the late Tolby J. and Eva Roberts Damron. On May 3, 1966, he married the former Rosa Maria Costa, who survives and remained faithfully devoted to him for 43 years and by his side even through his death. Also surviving are his sons Toby Damron, of Gahanna, OH; Teddy Damron, Columbus, OH; grandchildren Elizabeth and Eric Damron, Gahanna; brothers: Chad, Brad, Douglas and John Damron; sisters: Laura Van Bibber, Edith Horton and Elaine Owen; and numerous other family members. He was predeceased by brothers George and Daniel Damron; and sisters Gladys Myers, Vivian Compton and Elvira Turner. Jim served his country in the US Air Force from 1951-1956 during the Korean Conflict. Following which, he worked for Pan American World Services in South America and the Caribbean until his retirement. On the Island of Antigua in the Caribbean he worked as a civilian contractor at the US Air Force Antigua Air Station, a satellite tracking station that also supported all lunar launches. Among his many accomplishments, Jim was recognized by the US Government for his support of the Apollo 11 mission. He served his country in ways we will never know. In 2000, Jim returned to the Chillicothe area. Although Jim could be stern, he was outgoing, loving and friendly. Jim and his wife were known to always open their home to family and friends. He will be sadly missed by those who knew him.
