Jerry Hurst

Jerome Warner "Jerry" Hurst, 76, of Chillicothe, Ohio, (formerly of Waseca, Minnesota), died Friday, April 4, 2014, in Good Thunder, MN, surrounded by his loving family, following an illness.   He was born in Athens, Ohio, March 6, 1938, to Maynard and Phyllis (Edinger) Hurst.   Jerry is survived by his second wife, Betty, of Chillicothe, OH, his seven children, 25 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews; son, Roy Christopher "Chris" of Owatonna, MN; daughters, Terry Lamont of Las Vegas, NV; Jody (Gary) Johnson of Good Thunder, MN; Angel (Pat) Morgan of Janesville, MN; Mindy (Dave) Arth of Owatonna, MN; Julie (Dave) Kanne of Morristown, MN; Lori (Jeff) Steen of Mankato, MN; sisters Becky (Bill) Purpero of Piketon, OH;   Jacky (Roger) O'Dell of Leesburg, OH; and sister-in-law Dolores Stumbo of Circleville, OH.   He is predeceased by his wife of 45 years, Nancy Jane (Graves); his son, Daniel Jerome; his sister, Beverly Hurst; and his parents.   Jerry was a graduate of Unioto High School, Class of 1956.   He served in the National Guard for six years, and was part of the rescue effort of the Chillicothe flood during that time.   Jerry had a number of different jobs during his working life , from truck driving, factory work, and hog farming, but he was most passionate about bee keeping.    People drove from miles around to purchase honey from the "Hurst Honey Farm" of Waseca, MN, using a self-serve booth based on the honor system.   Jerry also enjoyed tending a large garden and orchard, and spending time with family and friends, which always included the telling of his stories.   (Although the facts of the stories grew with each telling, he was never at a loss for listeners).   His family invites you to attend his memorial service on Tuesday, April 8, at 11:00 a.m. at Brookside Church, 2215 Egypt Pike, Chillicothe, OH.   Pastor Jack Norman will be officiating.   A private burial will be held at a later date.
