Jeffrey Beard

Jeffrey Steven Beard, 62, of Chillicothe, passed away April 14, 2022, at the Adena Regional Medical Center, following a brief illness.   He was the youngest of 12 children, born July 1, 1959, to the late James W. and Dorothy (Cole) Beard, Sr.  On October 28, 1979, he married his beloved wife Mary (Ragland) Beard, and shared over 42 years of marriage.   In addition to his wife, he is survived by their son Jeffery Todd Beard (Nora Speakman); grandchildren, whom he dearly loved, Shyler Poling, Makenna and Kamilla Beard; the mother of his grandchildren, Jessica Poling, whom he loved as a daughter; siblings: George (Helen) Beard, Lonnie (Delores) Beard, Sr., Patrick (Terry) Beard, Sr., Danny Beard, Sr., Joyce Harden, and Linda Beard; sisters-in-law Wendy Beard and Christina Beard; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members; special friends Chancey and Dorthy Valentine, and John and Barbara Leech; and his canine companion "Hazel."   In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his siblings: Gloria (John) Winfield, Diana Joyner, Patricia Smith, James (Gail) Beard, Jr., Keith Beard, Sr., his infant brother Timmy Beard; and his mother-in-law Goldie (Tanner) Ragland.   Jeff graduated in 1978 from Chillicothe High School/Pickaway-Ross Vocational School, specializing in carpentry.  He was a former employee of USEC, in Piketon, OH.  Jeff retired from Kenworth Truck Co. on July 1, 2021, after 22 years of service.  Jeff enjoyed fishing, camping, spending time with family, or just sitting on his front porch looking down at the pond.  Jeff was a very special, quiet person.  He always believed you should treat people the way you wanted to be treated.  He will be greatly missed by all the people who knew and loved him.   His funeral service will be held at 3:00pm Saturday, April 23, at the Haller Funeral Home & Crematory with Pastor Keith Jackson and Pastor Mark Gray officiating.  The family will receive friends from 1:00pm - 3:00pm Saturday at the funeral home.  Per his request, cremation will follow the services Saturday. The family requests that those in attendance wear masks or facial coverings for everyone's protection.   In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to either: Adena Health Foundation-Hospice Program, 9 S. Paint St., Chillicothe, OH 45601; or the charity of the donor's choice.
