Jean Elizabeth Smith, age 87, took hold of God's hand to reunite with her heavenly family after passing away, Sunday, January 25th, 2021 @ 7:41 a.m. due to an extended illness. Her Loving Husband, Walter E. Smith was by her bedside at the time of her passing. Jean Elizabeth Smith was born on June 10th, 1933 in Massieville, Ohio to the late H. Dudley & Clara Louise Hammond. Jean was the 5th of 6 children. Jean was a Graduate of Centralia High School. After graduating she chose to enter the workforce. She later became employed at The Mead Paper Company, where she worked as a sorter. While there, she met the Love of her Life, Walter E. Smith. They were joined in Holy Matrimony on February 28th, 1957. Together they celebrated 63 ½ years of Marriage. From this union, they were blessed with 2 children, Lisa Kathryn Smith & Mark Dudley Smith. On July 14, 1986, she and Walter were blessed with their first Grandson, Mark D. Brady Smith and 4 years later on April 23rd, 1990, they were blessed with their second Grandson, Michael Dudley Smith. Jean truly enjoyed being a Grandmother to both of her Grandchildren and Loved them as only a devoted Grand Mother could. Walter and Jean also developed a very special relationship with their neighbors, Ralph and Shirley Smith, their daughters and sons in Law, Lindsey & Tyler Genders, Grandson, Barrett Genders, McKinsey & James Shiplett, Grandsons, Easton, and Emmett Shiplett, and Taylor Smith, each held a special place in her heart. Along with Special Neighbors Dean and Teresa Arledge, whom she loved to spend time talking outside of a morning or afternoon. Over the years Jean was an active member of the Gourmet Club and The Welcome Wagon. Jean loved to listen to Music of all genres and singing. She also Loved to be out in Nature, tending to her flower gardens, or walking her dog Caden, or the trails at the local state parks. Jean additionally enjoyed Cycling, Jogging, and reading. Jean possessed an Extraordinary Talents with Design and Textile Arts; she carried a true Passion within her to Create and enhance the Beauty of the world around her. Jean is proceeded in death by her parents, H. Dudley & Clara Louise Hammond, Brother Garnett Hammond, Sister, Kathryn Hammond-Graves, Brother, Donald Hammond. Brother Merideth Hammond, Sister-in-Law, Darlene Preston-Hammond, & Neice, Terri Jean Hammond- Mitchell. Jean is also proceeded in death by her Brother-In-Law, Robert Smith, Brother-in-Law, John Smith, Sister-In-Law. Evelyn Smith-Chapin, Nephew, James Smith, Neice, Jamie Smith, Sister-In-Law, Marion Smith, Great Nephew Joe Landman, Nephew, Sister-In-Law, Barbara Vollmar-Smith, Nephew, David Smith, Brother-In-Law, Richard Smith, Sister-In- Law, Marion Hatfield-Smith, and Brother-In-Law, Joe Schumann. Jean is survived by her Husband Walter, Daughter, Lisa Kathryn Smith, Son, Mark & Sherry Fowler-Smith, all of Stoutsville, Ohio, and her two Grandsons, Mark D. Brady Smith of Columbus, Ohio & Michael D. Smith of Mt. Sterling, Ohio. She is also survived by her Brother & Sister-In-Law, Lowell & Peggy Cox- Hammond of Hallsville, Ohio, Sister & Brother-In-Law, Shirley (Smith) & William (Bill) Landman of Waverly, Roy Phillip Jr. & Phyillis Fraley-Smith of Chillicothe, Ohio, Sister-In-Law, Lola Smith-Schumann of Chillicothe, Ohio; and numerous Nieces & Nephews on both sides of the family, whom she loved dearly. IN LIEU OF COVID 19 CORONA VIRUS PANDEMIC, A REMEMBERANCE MEMORIAL & GRAVESIDE SERVICE WILL BE HELD IN JUNE OF THIS YEAR,2021. WE WILL REACH OUT TO EVERYONE LATER IN THE SPRING WITH MORE INFORMATION.
