Janetta Burton

October 15, 1942 — May 18, 2017

Janetta (West) Burton, 74, of Chillicothe, departed this life on May 18, 2017.   She was born October 15, 1942 in Ft. Smith, AK to the late Earle and Helen (Bray) West. Sister Burton gave her life to Christ on February 6, 1981 and was baptized at Kirkland Air Force Base, Albuquerque, NM. She moved to Clinton, MD where she joined Mt. Ennon Baptist Church in 1989 and had served in numerous positions in the church. She was appointed Deaconess in 1998, president of the Missionary Board, and was instrumental in establishing the cancer support group, arts and crafts group and assisted in the Children Church. She moved to Chillicothe in November 2005, where she jointed First Baptist Church, and later became a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Springfield, OH, where her husband became pastor. She retired from twenty years of service with the Andrews AFB Exchange.   She leaves to mourn her passing her devoted husband of 54 years, Rev. Dr. Olie V. Burton; two sons, Olie V. (Nakita) Burton II, Accokeek, MD and David W. (Lynnetta) Burton, Lexington, SC; a daughter, Helen Renee (Steve) Ballard, Brandywine, MD; five grandchildren, Shawn Burton, Wichita Falls, TX, Kierra Burton, Newport News, VA, Olie Burton III, Vienna, VA, Jalynn Burton, Accokeek, MD, and Lauryn Burton, Lexington, SC; a great-grandchild, Atlas Burton; a stepsister, Etta Kay Whittaker, Oklahoma City, OK; brothers, Herschel West, Wichita, KS, and Sherman (Carline) West, Shawnee, KS; numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives. She was preceded in death by brothers, Earle West Jr. and Tellous West; twin brother, James West and a stepbrother, Floyd Smith.   Funeral services will be held 1:00 pm Tuesday at the Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 1171 S. Yellow Spring St., Springfield, OH, Rev. Eric Carson officiating. Graveside services will be held 2:30 pm, June 7, 2017 in Cheltenham Veterans Cemetery, Cheltenham, MD. Friends may call 11:00-1:00 Tuesday at the church in Springfield.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Mt. Zion Baptist Church, as the address above.
