Janet Gorrell

Janet Irene (Detty) Gorrell, 56, surrounded by many friends and family, passed away peacefully on March 8, 2018. She's survived by her beloved husband David Gorrell; Children Alexander Michael, Joshua Thaddeus, and Sidra Jacqueline; Parents John and Julie Detty; Sister and brother-in-law Susie and Mike Thompson; Brothers and sisters-in-law David and Heidi Detty, and Ralph (Bill) and Carolyn Detty; Grandchildren Hannah, Summer, and Ivan; and many loving nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her brothers Roger Detty (62), Johnny Detty (two months), and Jeffery Detty (two months). The family would also like to make a very special mention to Mark and Shelia Gray, Dustin Detty, Carolyn Detty, Crystal DePugh, and Leah Detty who were so loving and supportive through this entire journey. With an extreme love and passion for cooking, baking, and gardening, Janet had (has) so many loving friends, many 4 legged children and grandchildren, and a gazillion chickens, all which she loved so dearly. Janet had a long, three-year fight with Kidney Cancer. She beat the odds. When the doctors gave her months, she gave us years. We are thankful for the entire team at The James Cancer Center in Columbus, Ohio where her entire treatment took place. Janet was devoted to helping others. She was committed to using her journey to advance the research and knowledge of Kidney Cancer. Therefore, in lieu of flowers, the family requests that a donation be made to the Kidney Cancer Research and Treatment Fund – 311033 at the Ohio State's Comprehensive Cancer Center – James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute,  660 Ackerman Road , P.O. Box 183112, Columbus, OH 43218-3112 or online at  give.osu.edu/cancerfreeworld . Gifts in Janet's honor will benefit the cancer research program at Ohio State. Friends and family may attend a visitation on Monday, March 12, 2018 from 4:00pm to 8:00pm at the Haller Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 11:00am Tuesday, March 13, 2018 at the funeral home, with Pastor Mark Gray officiating. At Janet's request, cremation will follow at Haller Funeral Home & Crematory.
