Janet Elaine (Tanner) Cosby, 87, went home peacefully to be with the Lord on February 2, 2025, at 7:11 am following a brief illness.
She was born November 1, 1937 in Jackson County, Ohio to the late George and Loretha Tanner.
At a very early age Janet accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior and became a member at Bethel Carr Baptist Church, now known as United Community Baptist Church. She never worked outside of the home, but she was best known for babysitting for dozens of children. Most of the time having 10 to 12 at one time plus her own four.
On July 3, 1964, she married the late Darwin (Doc) Cosby. Janet leaves to cherish the memory of her life, a daughter, Holly (Joseph) Keel, sons, Keith (Tammy) Tanner, and Martin Cosby; she also leaves behind her grandchildren, Joseph (significant other Donna Loch) Keel, Jr., Joy (Scott) Finley, Corbin (Jami) Tanner; her great-grandchildren, Donavon Keel, Summer Finley, Mia, Maddex, and Malia Tanner, Remington Keel, Wesley (Amanda) Finley; great-great-grandchildren, Cayden and Tayana Keel, and Olivia Finley; adopted grandson, Christian Beverly; her sister, LeeAnn Ruck; two brothers, Hartsel (Donna) Tanner and Robert (Nancy) Tanner; a sister-in-law, Jewell Tanner; as well as many nieces, nephews, and very special friends, Chancey and Dorthy Valentine. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Bethany Michelle Cosby; sisters, Bonadean Davis and Blanche Stroud; her brothers, Herman, Dorsey, Jonas, Buford, and Delbert Tanner; and adopted granddaughter, Evelyn Nicole Valentine.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00pm on Friday, February 7, 2025 at th eHaller Funeral Home with Pastor Roger Ford officiating. Burial will follow in Caldwell Cemetery. Friends may join the family for visitation from 11:00am until the time of the service on Friday.
