Jane Schowengerdt

Jane P. Schowengerdt, 65, of Chillicothe, died 1:36 pm, April 26, 2008 in her home, while sleeping. A memorial service will be held 10:00 am Thursday in the Haller Funeral Home. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. She was born February 4, 1943 in Stirrat, WV to Freeman C. and Janet E. Boggs Pettus. Survivors include three children, Paul Eric "Gus" Schowengerdt, of East Lansing, MI, Charles David Schowengerdt and husband (Bryan Ochalla), of Seattle, WA, and Janet Lynn Schowengerdt, of Madison, WI; two sisters, Madge E. Boggs, and Joan M. Knight; a brother, Freeman C. Pettus, Jr.; and her former spouse, Dr. Carl Gordon Schowengerdt, of Zanesville. She was preceded in death by her parents. Jane loved to read, teach, learn and work. She was a 1961 graduate of Gallia Academy and received her Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration in 1988 from the Ohio University. She always took pride in helping to improve the community in which she lived. She began with the Cadillac Raffle to raise funds for programs at the Chillicothe Hospital. She was a sustaining member and Past President of Junior Civic League (1978) and was honored as Citizen of the Year by the Chillicothe Jaycees in 1976. She also relished the opportunity to assist the Chillicothe YMCA and Municipal swim teams with all endeavors from typing and printing "heat sheets" to transporting participating swimmers to events out of town and everything in between. Recently, Jane had enjoyed being a tutor and friend of students in need of help with mathematics, biology, and science. She was also an active Lenox Power Seller on eBay. In her free time she enjoyed laughing, gardening, cooking, baking, and tending to a myriad of pets. She made fantastic deviled eggs and fried zucchini. She was able to solve any problem placed before her—be it a puzzle book or a troubled friend. Her friends and family loved her more than she'll ever know. Goodbye Janey, you will be sorely missed.
