Jane (Rash) Mitten, 91, of Chillicothe, passed away on July 13, 2024, at Legacy of Chillicothe, following an extended illness.
She was born October 23, 1932, in Auglaize County, Ohio, daughter of the late Virgil W. and Violet V. (Rinehart) Rash. On October 19, 1952, she married her beloved husband, George Manley Mitten, and together they shared nearly 66 years of marriage before his passing on April 9, 2018.
Surviving are their children, Diana J. Swords, of Chillicothe, Gloria M. (Don MacPherson) Mitten, of Columbia, MS, and James A. (Eric Fenwick) Mitten, of Chillicothe; her brother James A. Rash, of Bellefontaine; a brother-in-law, Dick Lee, of Florida; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and friends. In addition to her parents and husband, Jane was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Jerry Swords; and her siblings, Chrystle (Don) Barnes, Robert (Pat) Rash, Richard W. (Phyllis) Rash, Mary (Jim) Edgington, R. Irene Rash, and Gloria Jean Lee.
Jane worked in the news room at the Chillicothe Gazette for many years before retiring. She later became a docent at Ross County Historical Society, where she enjoyed giving tours to visitors. She was a loyal member of the Mt. Carmel Community Church, serving as the chairman of their board for many years and volunteering her time wherever it was needed. Jane was also known for her time spent as a 4-H Club leader and her dedication to the Ross County Fair for more than 10 years. In her free time, she enjoyed making crafts and reading.
In honoring her wishes, the family will hold a Celebration of Life Service at 1:00 pm on Saturday, October 19, 2024 at the Mt. Carmel Community Church for family and friends. A graveside service will take place at 1:00pm on Monday, October 21, 2024 at Floral Hills Memory Gardens, where Jane and her beloved husband George will be laid to rest together. George will be receiving military honors conducted by the Ross County Veterans Honor Guard at that time.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Mt. Carmel Community Church at 5014 Charleston Pike, Chillicothe, OH 45601.
