James Smith

James E. Smith, 75, of Chillicothe, died 12:23 am, May 16, 2014, at Riverside Methodist Hospital, Columbus, following a brief illness. He was born September 2, 1938 in Pike Co., OH to the late Rev. Roy James and Ida Elizabeth Sutton Smith. Survivors include a daughter, Liz (Rob) Grooms, Chillicothe; his grandchildren, Michael and Emily Grooms; a great-granddaughter, Aubree Grooms; a step-mother, Martha Smith, Chillicothe; two brothers, Mike and Mark Smith, Chillicothe; several nieces and nephews, and Jim found love later in life with his special companion Vickie Smith; her children, Heather (Jeannette Crow) Smith and Dawn (Marty) Martinez; and their children, Julien, Emma, and Skyler. Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Pat Smith and a son, Jimmie Smith. Jim was a US Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War. He retired from the Chillicothe Fire Department and was a member of the Logan Elm Lodge F & AM, York and Scottish Rite bodies, the Aladdin Shriners, the Ross Co. Shrine Club, the Kentucky Colonels, Sons of the American Revolution, the Cherokee Nation, AMVETS Post 4, American Legion Post 62, VFW Post 108 and St. Mary Church. Funeral services will be held 1:00 pm Monday at the HALLER FUNERAL HOME, Jim Stevens officiating. Military graveside honors, conducted by the Ross Co. Veterans Honor Guard, of which Jim was a member, will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery. Friends may call 5-8 pm Sunday at Haller's. Memorial contributions may be made to the Ross Co. Shrine Club, Shriners Hospitals, PO Box 371, Chillicothe, OH 45601.
