James "Jim" Elliott Sexton, 76, of Waverly, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, July 14, 2023 at his home.
He was born on November 22, 1946 in Jackson, Ohio, son of the late John and Catherine (Hellman) Sexton. On December 31, 1989, he married his beloved wife Sheila Kay (Adams) Sexton, sharing nearly 34 years of marriage.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his two sons, Shane E. (Genia) Sexton, and Shannon L. (Amy) Sexton; grandchildren, Hunter (Katelyn) Sexton, Emily Watkins, Matthew Sexton, Breanna Sexton, Trent (Alyssa) Sexton, and Trevor Sexton; a great-grandson, Bentley Sexton; three sisters, Joyce Wisecup, Cathy Hammond, and Pansy Ericson; his beloved and faithful canine companion, Scooter; as well as his good friends, Robert Nixten and Terry Hatzo. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son, James E. Sexton, Jr.
Jim was a graduate of Jackson High School, class of 1966. Following his graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army, faithfully serving his country for the next two years in Vietnam before being honorably discharged. He went on to work at Mead Paper Company for many years before retiring in 2007. Jim was a member of the American Legion, Post 757, and was a proud patriot to have served during Vietnam. In his free time, he loved to be outdoors going hunting and fishing with his friends. He could also be found watching the Cleveland Browns, Cincinnati Red, and also enjoyed a good Paints game. But most of all, he loved getting to spend time with his family.
In accordance with his wishes, cremation services will be performed. There will be no public calling hours or services at this time.
