James Schneider
January 25, 1938 — April 25, 2025
James P. Schneider, 87, of Chillicothe, left this life to be with the Lord on April 25, 2025, at 8:55pm.
He was born on January 25, 1938, in Chillicothe, to Joseph John and Theresa Mary Pfaff Schneider. On November 5, 1990, he married Helen L. Schneider, who survives.
Also surviving are three sons: Thomas Aaron (Jill) Schneider, Kettering, OH, Matthew Paul (Bethanne) Schneider, Chillicothe, William Joseph (Jessica) Schneider, Columbus; foster son Randy Everet (Terry) Hughes, Canton, MO; step-son Mark (Sherry) Rapp, Chillicothe; eight grandchildren: Gabrielle Erin and Isabelle Meredith Schneider, James Paul and Thomas William Schneider, Ollivander Emerson Schneider; foster grandchildren: Katie (John) Curtis, Kelly Jordan; step-grandchild: Justin (Maeann) Rapp; 2 great-granddaughters Elizabeth and Alyce Rapp; 8 nephews; 4 nieces; and a host of great- and great-great-nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; and brothers Joseph A., Carl R., Albert J. and Robert E. Schneider.
Mr. Schneider retired from Local Union 189 Plumbers & Pipefitters. He served his country in the US Army Reserves from 1963 – 1969. He served as a Cub Scout Master and Assistant Cub Scout Master for a number of years. He was a member of the Master Gardeners of Ross County, the AMVETS, Post 4, the American Legion, Post 62, and the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie 600, for many years.
Mr. Schneider loved to work with his hands building model ships and remodeling his home. He loved to take his boat out on Paint Creek or Rocky Fork Lake and fish all day, or go mushroom hunting in Tar Hollow State Park.
Mr. Schneider's kindness, his good humor, integrity and his steadfast love for his family will be greatly missed. He was a remarkable man.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00pm Thursday, May 1, at Calvary Evangelical Lutheran Church, 74 W. Main St., Chillicothe, with Pastor Tom Pairan officiating. The family will receive friends from 6-8pm Wednesday at Haller Funeral Home and 1 hour prior to the funeral Thursday at the church. Following cremation, inurnment will be held in Greenlawn Cemetery.
The family would like to thank National Church Residences Hospice Team for Jim's care over the past 2 years, especially Tasha, Collin and Sarah, for their kindness, love and compassion. Helen would like to thank Kay Northrup, Linda Cruz, Tim Rutter and Mark and Sherry Rapp for being there to help her with whatever was needed, whenever she needed them.
