James Pocock

James F. 'Doc' Pocock, Jr. James F. Pocock, Jr., 66, of Chillicothe passed into eternal life surrounded by loved ones at 5:40 p.m. June 27, 2005 after a year-long struggle with leukemia. Jim was born December 5, 1938 in Chillicothe, the son of Cornelia I. Pocock and James F. Pocock, Sr. On September 5, 1959 he married the former Barbara Goshorn, who survives. Jim is also survived by two daughters, Deborah Bubar of Cleveland and Michele Pocock of Chillicothe; grandchildren, Justin and Ryan Bubar; brother, Michael J. Pocock, of Columbus; mother-in-law, Florence Bowman of Chillicothe; special friend, Lee Stephens, Jr. of Chillicothe. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Cheryl Clay; and stepmother Mamie Pocock. Jim was a 1956 graduate of Chillicothe High School and a 1961 graduate of The Ohio State University School of Optometry and a member of Epsilon Psi Epsilon Fraternity. He was in partnership with his father at 59 West Main Street until 1984 and retired from optometry in 1998. He had been active in Chillicothe Jaycees, Chillicothe Exchange Club, Chillicothe-Ross Chamber of Commerce, Ross County OSU Alumni Association, Chillicothe High School Alumni Association, Elks Lodge #52, American Legion Post #62 (SAL), The OSU Alumni Association, Ohio Optometric Association, The Ohio State University Alumni Association. He was a member of The American Optometric Association and the Pump House Center for the Arts. Jim became a member of Brookside Church in 2004, actively worked with the Food Pantry. Before and after his retirement, Jim enjoyed spending time with family, attending OSU football games, playing golf, walking with his wife, cooking and gardening. Funeral services will be held 11:00 am Friday in the Haller Funeral Home, Rev. David Dean and John Cooper officiating. Burial will follow in Grandview Cemetery. Friends may call 2-4 and 6-8 Thursday and one hour prior to the service on Friday at Haller's. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Brookside Church, 2215 Egypt Pike or Adena Health Foundation Hospice Program, 111 West Water Street, Chillicothe.
