James E. Meeker, died at 11:58am Tuesday, January 17, at his residence surrounded by his family under the care of NCR Hospice. He was born January 1, 1931, to the late Frank and Elizabeth Ratcliff Meeker. On July 22, 1949, he married Donna Stauffer, who survives. Also surviving are his daughter Cynthia (James) Flannagan; the love of his life, his grandchildren Sage (Amanda) Flannagan, of Columbus; and Sayre (Drew) Dyer, Athens; three great-grandsons: Ellis and Eamon Flannagan, and Alden Dyer; three sisters: Mary Elliott, Evelyn Clary and Marie Diehl; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers John, Howard, Don and Robert Meeker; and sisters Ruth McWhorter and Helen Ice. Jim will best be remembered for his affiliation with the Atomic Speedway where he was part-owner and driver. He raced there and surrounding tracks for over 20 years. He was inducted into the Atomic Hall of Fame in June 2014. He was a teamster and retired from CMX. After retirement, he enjoyed golfing with his buddies at Running Fox. He was a member of the Eagles, Aerie 600. Friends may call Friday from 5-7pm at Haller Funeral Home & Crematory, where an Eagles service will be held at 7pm.
