James (Jim) Irwin, age 82 of Chillicothe, peacefully entered heaven on Monday, January 12, 2026, following a brief illness. Jim was looking forward to reuniting with his beloved wife of 55 years, Mary (Kendall) Irwin.
Jim was born on May 22, 1943, to Robert and Ada (Wintersheimer) Irwin in Chillicothe, Ohio. In addition to his parents and wife, he was also preceded in death by his sister, Peggy (Irwin) Bowman, and her husband, Don (Snellville, GA).
He is survived by his daughter, Lee A. (Irwin) Raybould (Rick) of Westerville, OH, and son Travis A. Irwin (Meredith) of Chillicothe. His grandchildren were the light of his life: Ryan and Derrick Raybould, Cassie and Simon Irwin. Also surviving are brother, Bobby (Shirley) Irwin, and sister, Rosie (Irwin) Daughters (the late Dave), all of Chillicothe. In addition, cousins Ann (Irwin) Younkin, Jane (Irwin) Downs, and John Irwin, as well as numerous nieces and nephews, Nicole (Bowman) Livers, Laurie (Davis) Martin, Kelly and Toby Irwin, Justin Davis, Elizabeth (Daughters) Showalter, Ben Daughters, and Rebekah (Daughters) Metzger.
Jim attended St. Peter’s Parish School during his early education years and graduated from Catholic Central High School in 1961. He and his family remained longtime members of St. Peter’s Parish in Chillicothe.
Jim was employed by the Glidden Paint Company, where he spent several years working in Mt. Vernon, Ohio. Soon after, he became manager of The Color Shop in Central Center. Jim began working at the Chilpaco Corporation in the early 1980s and retired from there in 2005.
Family and friends are invited to visit on Friday, January 23, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at St. Peter’s Church in Chillicothe. Directly following will be a Mass of Christian Burial and final burial at St. Margaret Cemetery.
The family is grateful for the care Jim received in the Cardiac Unit at Adena Regional Medical Center, the OSU Medical Center, and during his last days, the amazing nursing staff of the hospice unit in Rhodes Hall at the OSU Medical Center. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to Ohio’s Hospice of Central Ohio.
