James Robert "Jim" Hitch, 80, of Chillicothe, passed away Friday afternoon, January 22, 2021, at Berger Health System in Circleville, following a brief illness.
He was born May 21, 1940, in Chillicothe, Ohio, son of the late William and Helen (Murch) Hitch. On May 12, 1961, he married his beloved wife Eva Jean (Ralston) Hitch, and together they shared nearly 60 years of marriage.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by their four children, Jim (Julie) Hitch, Sandy (Doug) Cox, Linda (Mark) Hammond, and Becky (Bill) Lee; their grandchildren, Elizabeth (Ryan) Timberlake, Ethan Hitch, Jacob Hitch, Bryon (Heather) Cox, Victoria Cox, Caydon Cox, Nathan Hitch, Adam Hammond, Hannah (Chase) Thatcher, Trevor Lee and Aron Lee; great-grandchildren, Hadley and Mailey Cox, Evalyn Thatcher, and two on the way; his sister, Katherine (Bob) DeLong; his brother, Walter (Carolyn) Hitch; a sister-in-law, Virgene Hitch; as well as numerous niece, nephews, and extended family members. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Bill Hitch.
Jim was an honorably discharged veteran of the United States Air Force, serving from 1958-1963. He went on to work for the United States Postal Service for many years before finally retiring. He was a life member of the Logan Elm Lodge #624 F & AM. In his free time, he enjoyed spending time outside gardening. But his favorite thing in the world was spending time with his grandchildren and family.
Private services will be held for the family with a burial at Springbank Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the American Heart Association in his honor.
