James Gordon "Gordy" Gillfillan, Sr., 84, died peacefully at 6:45am August 20, 2018, at his home.
He was born March 15, 1934, in Chillicothe, to the late Walter Adam and Frankie Grace (Purdum) Gillfillan. He graduated from Southeastern High School and then went on to serve in the US Army. On September 8, 1956, he married the love of his life, Shirley Ann Dickson, while serving at Ft. Knox, KY, who survives.
Also surviving are his daughters and sons-in-law Cheryl (Skip) Berry, Theresa (Jeff) Hall, Lisa (Brent) Bethel, Kimberly (Marc) Leeth; 11 grandchildren: Gina, Amber, Luke, Matt, Gabe, Shannon, Shelby, Stormy, Hannah, Savannah and Cheyenne; 8 great-grandchildren: Timothy, Emmalee, Wesley, Titus, Kylee, Oliver, Skylar and Nolan; a brother Thomas (Kathy) Gillfillan; sister-in-law Norma Jean Gillfillan; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sons James G. Gillfillan, Jr., and Mark Allen Gillfillan; brothers Richard (Maxinne) Gillfillan and John Gillfillan; and a sister Marceil (Charles) Fout.
Gordy was a Firefighter for the City of Chillicothe, serving 26 years. After he retired, he enjoyed woodworking, riding his motorcycle, building model train sets, working on firetrucks, farming and spending time with his family. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00am Thursday, August 23, at St. Mary Catholic Church, Rev. Lawrence Hummer, Celebrant. Military graveside services, conducted by the Ross Co. Veterans Honor Guard, will follow in St. Margaret Cemetery. Friends may call Wednesday from 5-8pm at Haller Funeral Home & Crematory, where a wake service will be held at 8pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Assoc., Central Ohio Chapter, 1379 Dublin Rd., Columbus, OH 43215.
