James Everett Dyer, 84, of Chillicothe, passed away at 10:00am, Tuesday, January 12, 2010, in the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Chillicothe, following a brief illness. He was born May 28, 1925, in Chillicothe, to the late Everett Omega and Ada Margaret Meeker Dyer. He was the widower of Wiladene A. Bennett Dyer, with whom he shared 56 years of marriage. Surviving are his daughter and son-in-law Vicki (Charles) Pritchard, Bainbridge, OH; son and daughter-in-law Peter O. (Mary) Shaw, Chillicothe; grandchildren James Dean (Judy) Shaw, Commercial Point, OH; Scot Thomas Shaw, Melbourne, FL; Margaret Michelle (David) Herlensky, Bainbridge; his siblings Margaret L. (Gale) DePugh, Chillicothe; Virginia A. (Robert) Kline, Wilmington, OH; and June Dyer Hastings, Chillicothe; and many nieces and nephews. In additional to his wife and parents, Jim was predeceased by a brother William Lowell Dyer. Mr. Dyer was a WWII Army Veteran who served his country as a Corporal in the Military Police. He was employed as a local farmer, carpenter and foreman for the former Brewer and Brewer sand and gravel plant. His woodworking skills were much in demand during his retirement. At his request, there will be no calling hours. Private graveside services will be held at the convenience of the family in Concord Church Cemetery under the direction of Haller Funeral Home. A memorial celebration for family and friends will be held at a later date.
