James Cordes

James Leon Cordes, 73, of Chillicothe, died early Thursday morning, June 18, 2015, at the Adena Regional Medical Center, following a brief illness. He was born February 8, 1942, in Fayetteville, Arkansas, to the late Clifford and LaJuana (Wilson) Cordes. On September 15, 1964, he married the former Sally Davis, who survives. Also surviving is their daughter, Kim (Cordes) Hoffman, of Kingston; a granddaughter, Hannah (Kyle) Gibson, of Chillicothe; a sister, Judy Otis; three brothers, Bill (Barbara) Anderson, Mike (Christine) Anderson, and Mark (Lynn) Anderson; two sisters-in-law, Shirley Detty, and Bernadine Barr; a brother-in-law, Wayne (Betty) Davis, numerous nieces and nephews, as well as special friends, Larry (Amy) Gartner, Marvin (Mary) Shaw, Joe Weathersbee, and Wayne Conaway. In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his step father, Walter Anderson. On June 13, 1960, Jim enlisted in the United States Navy, where he served his country for the next ten years. Upon being honorably discharged from the military, he joined the Chillicothe Police Department and worked for thirty years before retiring in 2000. He was a member of the American Legion Post 62, and the Fraternal Order of Police. Jim loved barbequing for his friends, playing golf, going to flea markets and antiquing. He also enjoyed watching the Dodgers and the Dallas Cowboys. Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm Tuesday, June 23, at the Haller Funeral Home, with Marvin Shaw officiating. Military graveside services conducted by the Ross County Veterans Honor Guard will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery. Friends may call Monday from 5-8pm at Hallers.
