James Burnem

August 14, 1927 — August 15, 2017

James Edward Burnem, Sr., of Bainbridge, OH, went to be with his eternal Lord and Savior August 15, 2017.    The oldest of seven boys, he was born August 14, 1927 in Ward, WV to Ernest Virgil and Ina Francis (Mooney) Burnem. He married Betty Jean Watkins in 1948, and together they raised six children. He was an accomplished auto body mechanic, a trade he passed on to his sons and grandsons. In his retirement, he enjoyed gardening, raising horses, and sharing a hot cup of coffee with his family and friends.    He came to know Christ as his personal savior in 1980 and lived his life to glorify God in all ways. In the years he resided in Point Pleasant, WV, he was a faithful member of the Point Pleasant Church of the Nazarene. During his time in Ohio, he attended Denver Chapel Christian Union Church. He was a friend to everyone he met and took great joy in sharing the glory of God with everyone he knew.    He was preceded in death by his loving wife of sixty-five years, his parents, brothers Glenn, Roger, Gene, and Jack, sons Howard Stephen and Charles Henry, and grandson Jeremy John.    He is survived by two brothers, Junior and Donald; his children James Edward, Jr (Scheherazade) of Palmer, Alaska; David Alan of Talkeetna, Alaska; Melinda Lee (Royce McGhee) of Bainbridge, Ohio; Larry Michael of Marshall, Ohio; Gwendolyn Kay (John McCoy) of Gallipolis Ferry, West Virginia; and daughter-in-law Debra Burnem. His memory will forever be celebrated in the hearts of his grandchildren Shayne, Brian, Stevie, Sacha, Josh, Jennifer, Traci, Sheridan, Shelly, Jodi, Stephanie, Ashley, Mikey, Natasha, Jimmy, Kaysi, Mindy, Kayla, Emily, and Molly, 34 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.    The family would like to thank Dee and Community Care Hospice for their attention and dedication to Jim in his final days.    Friends may call 5-8 pm Friday at the Haller Funeral Home and Crematory. Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, August 19, 2017 at Denver Chapel Christian Union Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
