Jacqueline Hairston

Jacqueline J. Hairston, 78, of Los Angeles, CA, formerly of Chillicothe, went to be with the Lord Monday September 22, 2008, in the California Hospital, Los Angeles, following many courageous battles. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00am Tuesday, September 30, in St. Mary Catholic Church, Rev. Lawrence Hummer, Celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Margaret Cemetery. Friends may call from 6-8pm Monday at Haller Funeral Home, where a wake service will be held at 8:00pm. Jackie was born July 13, 1930, in Chillicothe to the late Fredrick L. and Mabel V. Johnson Menefee. She was married to Salem G. "Don" Hairston, who preceded her in death in 1982. Jackie is survived by her daughter Jacqueeta Valentine, with whom she made her home, of Los Angeles, CA; son and daughter-in-law Anthony (Gwen) Hairston, Chillicothe; sons Don F. Hairston, Los Angeles; Fredrick S. Covington, Fountain Valley, CA; grandchildren: Danyell Valentine Allan, Atlanta, GA; Stephanie Hairston, Columbus, OH; Anthony Hairston II, Chillicothe; Jamie Hairston, Cincinnati; Austin D. Hairston, Los Angeles; 7 great-grandchildren; brother Jan (Delores) Menefee; sisters Anne Menefee and Rosemary (Lawrence) Brown, all of Chillicothe; and several nieces and nephews; family and friends. She was predeceased by sisters Elizabeth Mitchell and Jean Newsome; and brothers Lavon "Bonnie" Menefee and Freddie Menefee. Jackie was the owner and operator of Jackie's Beauty Salon. She was a member of St. Mary Church where she served as a Eucharistic Minister and helped found the Lazarus Committee.
