Jack L. Smith, 74, of Chillicothe, went to be with the Lord at 5:30pm Friday September 28, 2007, in his home following an extended illness. Funeral services will be held at 10:00am Tuesday, October 2, in the Haller Funeral Home with Rev. David Titler officiating. Military graveside services conducted by the Ross Co. Veterans Honor Guard will follow in Hallsville Cemetery. Friends may call Monday from 5-8pm at Haller Funeral Home. Jack was born February 17, 1933, in Columbus, OH. On November 9, 1954, he married the former Fern Adkins, who survives. Also surviving are his daughter Jacqueline Schildhouse, of Racine, WI; son and daughter-in-law Jeffrey (Pamela) Smith, Kingston; sons Timothy Smith and Mark Smith, both of Chillicothe; grandsons: Staff Sergeant Matthew (Natalie) Smith, DuPont, WA; Jeremy Park, Chillicothe; Joshua Smith, Virginia; granddaughters: Jennifer (Tom) Smith, Kingston; Crystal (Shawn) Whalen, Danielle Schildhouse, and Amber Schildhouse, all of Racine, WI; Katy Park, Chillicothe; and Jessica Russell, Alabama; great-grandchildren Alexander Wolff, Brailey Smith, both of Kingston; Morrigan and Damian Whalen, both of Racine, WI; Harper Russell, Alabama; sisters and brothers-in-law Jane (Vernon) Boler, Columbus; Judy (Tom) England, Zanesville; Cindy Johnson, San Bernardino, CA; brother and sister-in-law Hubert (Cathy) Cottrill, Chillicothe; a special Aunt Faye Davidson, Georgia; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Burrel (Joyce) Adkins; David (Teresa) Adkins, all of Chillicothe; and Ray Adkins, of Tennessee. He was predeceased by his mother Lillian (Smith) Cottrill; his step-father Hubert Cottrill; and a daughter-in-law Vicki Smith. The family would like to offer special thanks to the caregivers and visitors of Adena Hospice. Jack retired from the Chillicothe Telephone Co. in 1989 following 33 years of service. He later worked at Sugarloaf Power Equipment. He was an active member of Community United Methodist Church of Hallsville having served as a Sunday School Teacher, a Circuit Rider, and a Lay Speaker until his eyesight and health would not allow him to serve anymore. Jack served his country in the Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He was a lifetime member of the VFW, Post 108.
