Ira McCorkle, Jr., 88, affectionately known as "Dad", "Pap", and "Junior", died at 3:35pm March 12, 2011, in Westmoreland Place. He was born April 16, 1922, in Obetz, OH, to the late Ira Talbert and Cora Cramer McCorkle. On March 1, 1941, he married the former Opal E. Evans, who preceded him in death on November 17, 2000. Surviving are his daughter Derre McCorkle, Chillicothe; daughter and favorite son-in-law Brenda (Larry) Ashworth, Circleville; daughter and son-in-law Regenia (Don) Lear, Laurelville; sons and daughters-in-law Michael (Kathy) McCorkle; Dan McCorkle; and Greg (Teresa) McCorkle, all of Chillicothe; 14 grandchildren: Danielle (Steve) Stulz; Brandi (Sam) Pence; Shane (Michele) Ogan; Melissa (Robert) Jenkins; Kim (Bob) Dement; Brian (Addie) Ashworth; Tommy (Tennille) Ashworth; Nate Stout; Amanda Halaz; Christon McCorkle; Ricky Blake; Shawn McCorkle; Jason (Jonda) McCorkle; Michael Shawn Lee Good; 18 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-granddaughter; son-in-law Bob Ogan, Chillicothe; half-brothers Gerald "Guy" (Sue) McCorkle; and Jerry (Mary Ellen) McCorkle, all of Chillicothe; half-sisters Martha (Gib) Williamson, Columbus; Mary (Toby) Borland, Chillicothe; Janet (Charlie) Bullock, Alabama; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a daughter Kay Ogan; sisters Katherine Bennett and Ruth McCorkle; brothers Russell and Eugene "Snooks" McCorkle; 2 infant brothers and sisters-in-law Leafy McCorkle and Sylvia McCorkle. Mr. McCorkle worked as a brick mason and belonged to the Brick Layers Union, Local 45. He helped lay brick at the YMCA, the former Chillicothe Hospital, and the "wavy wall" at the Tabernacle Baptist Church. He had attended Camelin Hill Church. He loved to hunt mushrooms and took the location of his secret patches with him. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff and residents at Westmoreland Place for their care and friendship over the years. Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm Wednesday, March 16, at the Haller Funeral Home with Pastor John Karlson officiating. Burial will follow in Three Locks Cemetery. Friends may call from 5-8pm Tuesday at Haller Funeral Home.
