Howard Stout

January 29, 1947 — December 28, 2018

Howard "Butch" Stout was born in Chillicothe, Ohio on January 29, 1947 to Howard and Virginia (Harper) Stout. Butch lived his early years on Columbia Avenue, where he and friends played on the riverbank and attended Mt. Logan School. Moving to the Unioto district in 1963, he played baseball, football, and met the love of his life, Janis Brock. Graduating in 1965, he soon enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He and Janis married in 1966, and together they became parents to Geoff and Scott. He attended the Ohio University in both Chillicothe and Lancaster. Butch was at his game when he was teaching children sports. He coached youth baseball for more than a decade at Scioto Valley Youth League, serving as commissioner and also treasurer for three seasons. He was a referee, umpire, amateur sports photographer, Explorer Scout advisor, Union Twp volunteer, avid golfer, hunter, and marksman. He spent 31 years working at DuPont in Circleville, and after retirement he golfed at the Jaycees and VA. He gave hundreds of hours to VA Homeless Veterans programs. He also enjoyed traveling with Janis until his health began to fail. Butch was also a proud alumnus of Unioto's Class of 1965, and helped organize and communicate events that kept members connected. He was dedicated to his family and treasured them as he watched them grow and succeed in life. He relished the genealogy of his family and maintained the vast genealogical work his mother Virginia passed down. He was most proud that his family resides on sixth-generation land. One of his lifelong pleasures was watching wildlife on the family farm. Butch leaves behind his wife Janis, sons Geoff and Scott (Ticey Graves); grandchildren Lauren (Ryan Houser) Logan, Gage and Eden Stout; a sister Marcia Stout; brother-in-law Jeff (Becky) Brock; step-mother-in-law Reada Brock; a niece Emily Woodruff and family; nephew Brian Cokonougher and family; special cousin Tom (Rita) Stout; as well as numerous other cousins. The family will receive visitors on Saturday, January 5, 2019 from 11:00am-1:00pm at Haller Funeral Home. A celebration of life will begin at 1:00pm on Saturday immediately following calling hours. To respect his generous, giving heart, we request that memorial contributions be made to the Andy Stout Memorial Scholarship Fund, C/O Angie White, 161 Rosewood Ct., Chillicothe, OH 45601, or to Brookside Church Food Pantry, 2215 Egypt Pike, Chillicothe, OH 45601.
