Howard Thayer Marks, 85, of Chillicothe, passed away on Thursday, February 2, 2023 at his home, following an extended illness.

He was born on June 23, 1937, in Charleston, West Virginia, son of the late Isaac Thayer and Zella Marie (Keffer) Marks. He married the love of his life, Dixie Lou (Pauley) Marks, and together they shared over 43 years of marriage.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by their children, Steve Marks, of Nelsonville, Susan Marks, of Columbus, David Hammonds, of Chillicothe, and Michael Cowan, of Charleston, WV; two grandchildren, Maximus Hammonds, and Charlotte Mitzi Hammonds; a brother, Thomas Marks, of Cross Lanes, WV; a sister, Sandra McCullagh, of Nitro, WV; as well as numerous other family members and close friends.

Howard enlisted in the United States Air Force on November 26, 1955, where he spent the next 21 years serving his country. Upon his retirement from the military, he began working at the Charleston Area Medical Center in Charleston, West Virginia and retired as a maintenance mechanic following 20 years of employment.

A military graveside service for Howard will be held at 2:00pm on Friday, March 24, 2023 at the Donel C. Kinnard Memorial State Veterans Cemetery, located at 130 Academy Drive, Dunbar, WV, 25064.
