Hershell Craft

November 16, 1930 — September 19, 2009

Hershell H. Craft, 78, of Chillicothe, died unexpectedly 1:10 pm, Saturday, September 19, 2009, at the Adena Regional Medical Center. He was born November 16, 1930 in Charleston, WV the son of the late Ernest M. and Ruby R. Craft. On April 2, 1982 he married Anna Christine Rote, who survives. Also surviving is a step-daughter, Suzanne Prindiville; his brothers, Cecil and Winston Craft, Kingsport, TN, Ernest Craft, Memphis, TN, Wendell Craft, Nashville, TN, and Lowell Craft, Sneedsville, TN, nieces and nephews, Teresa Hamilton, Karen Craft, Beth Craft, Barry Craft, and Robert Craft. Hershell was a 1949 graduate of Sullivan High School where he was an outstanding athlete, lettering in four sports. He received his Bachelor of Science and Masters degrees in English from East Tennessee State University and retired from teaching at the Chillicothe High School in 1986. He was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church, where he served as Superintendent. He was a US Army veteran of the Korean Conflict; a life member of the Ohio Retired Teachers' Association; American Legion Post 62; the Chillicothe Evening Lions; Scioto Lodge 6 F & AM; Grand Chapter of Royal Arch Masons of Ohio, Chapter 4; the Grand Council Royal and Select Masons of Ohio, Council 4; Knights Templar, Commandery 8; Scottish Rite, Consistory Valley of Columbus; Kentucky Colonels; Aladdin Shriners; Ross Co. Shrine Club; and Order of Eastern Star, Chapter 419. Funeral services will be held 10:00 am Wednesday in the Haller Funeral Home, Rev. Tad Grover officiating. Military graveside services, conducted by the Kingsport American Legions Hammond Post 3 and Gates City Post 265, will be held 2:00 pm Friday in East Lawn Memorial Gardens, Kingsport TN. Friends may call 5-8 pm Tuesday at Haller's, where a Masonic Memorial Service will be held at 7:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Trinity United Methodist Church, Memorial Fund, Main and Mulberry Streets, Chillicothe, OH 45601.
