Helen Wheeler

Helen Beatrice Selzer Wheeler passed away at her home in Columbus, OH, on Saturday, October 31, 2015. She was born in Waterloo, Iowa on March 5, 1926 to the late Francis John and Lura Mae (Loomis) Selzer. She was a loving, caring mother, wife, friend and work colleague. She was a devout Catholic who helped others by volunteering in various church organizations. She was generous from the heart to all who met her. Helen grew up in Waterloo, and moved to Ohio as a young adult to help take care of her niece, Mary Kay Nichols Eltzroth. She attended nursing school and then worked for St. Anne's Hospital for many years. Later in life, she worked at nursing homes. She married George Austin Wheeler on May 22, 1948, and had five children: Richard Valery Wheeler, James Austin Wheeler, Mary Anne Wheeler, Gerard Francis Wheeler, and Margaret Mary Wheeler. She is survived by three of her children: Richard and his wife Carol Wheeler of Cathedral City, CA, Mary Anne and her husband, Ray Wood of Raleigh, NC, and Gary of Columbus, OH; her four grandchildren: Valery Izmirli, John David Wheeler, Lura Wojciechowski, AnnaRae ShuYi Wood and five great-grandchildren: Austin David Wheeler, Marcus and Isabel Izmirli, Morgan Kay and Connor Wojciechowski. She also is survived by several of her siblings: Lucille Nichols, Josephine Astel, Kay Barrow; and many nephews, nieces, and extended family members. Helen's family is thankful for friends like the Wheelers, Dottie Kelly, Mary Helen Colleli, Father Petry, and Chris, Dennis and Faith Schrader who supported her over the years. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., November 16 at St. Mary Catholic Church, 61 S. Paint St., Chillicothe, OH, Rev. Lawrence Hummer, Celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Margaret Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Haller Funeral Home and Crematory, www.HallerFuneralHome.com.
