Helen Louise Shope, 84, of Chillicothe, died 9:20 pm, Wednesday, April 30, 2008 in Westmoreland Place Nursing Home, following an extended illness. A private service was held at the convenience of the family, followed by cremation. She was born August 9, 1923 in Lyra, OH to Frank B. and Pearl J. Worthington Mustain. She married James E. Shope, Jr., who died January 28, 1992. Survivors, whom she loved dearly, include her children, James A. (Joan) Shope and Stanley W. (Lesley) Shope of Chillicothe; sons-in-law Jack Lunsford Jr., and Lawrence Buzzelli; eight grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; a brother Finley Mustain and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two daughters, Judith Buzzelli and Patricia Lunsford; 2 sisters, Erma Smith and Catherine Fannin; and three brothers, Arnold, Aquillis and Frank Mustain. Helen had a Masters Degree in Education from Ohio State University; a Bachelors Degree in Education from Ohio University; and retired, after having taught in the Huntington and Chillicothe School Districts as a reading and elementary teacher. Mrs. Shope was a lifetime member of the Ross County Retired Teacher's Association, the Ohio Education Association, National Education Association, Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, Chillicothe Chapter 419 Order of the Eastern Star, Ohio University and Ohio State Alumni Associations and was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. The family would like to thank the entire staff at Westmoreland Place for the care they provided for Helen during her stay there, and Adena Hospice for their assistance and care.
