Hattie "Joan" Hendershot-Ross, known affectionately as Hattie, Joan, or Joanie, passed away on August 6, 2024, in Frankfort, Ohio, at the age of 77. She was born on August 20, 1946, in Matewan, West Virginia.
Joan was a registered nurse with Premier Home Health. She mentioned that she learned much more from her patients than they learned from her.
Joan is survived by her sons, Ty and Tad Hendershot; grandchildren, Logan, Trent, and Carys Hendershot, sisters-in-law Betty Hendershot, Helen Butler; brother-in-law Richard Krick; as well as Aunt Sophie (Slater) Small. She will be missed by a loving circle of aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Norman ("Norm") Hendershot, his parents, (John and Mary Hendershot) and husband, Earl "Rossie" Ross Jr.; her parents, Imogene (Slater) and Irvin Maynard; Uncle Marvin (Helen) Slater and Uncle Bill (Audrey) Slater and Aunt Pat ( "Patsy"), Madge Williamson, Uncle Fred (Sophia) Small. She was also preceded in death by her brothers-in-law John, Howard and Richard Hendershot as well as a sisters-in-law, Angie Hendershot and Carolyn Krick.
Her home smelled like cinnamon (thanks to Janna), was a hub of hospitality filled with laughter and an ever-present variety of candies. Joan was also a gifted storyteller, often sharing anecdotes about her beloved Norm and Rossie's trips to the barn. She delighted in recounting humorous tales, such as her dad's explosive mishap with dynamite and her mother's vehicular adventures involving a John Deere tractor. Joan possessed a remarkable ability to make everyone feel welcome. She enjoyed engaging in games like sudoku and crossword puzzles as well as listening to her scanner, watching Fox News, and watching Lifetime Movies.
Funeral will be held at Haller Funeral Home, 1661 Western Ave., Chillicothe, OH, on Friday, August 16, 2024. Visitation from 11am-1pm. Funeral Service at 1pm, officiated by Pastor Aaron Hines. The joint committal of Joan and Norm will be held at Grandview Cemetery, Chillicothe, OH. This is the end of Norm's bucket list.
The family would like to thank the compassionate aides and nurses who persistently cared for Joan at National Church Residence Hospice and Vineyards at Concord Nursing Home.
