Harry "Bud" Lewis Blake, 87, of Chillicothe, passed away 11:35 am, Thursday, September 25, 2014, following an extended illness. He was born November 6, 1926 in Chillicothe to the late Manuel and Mary Quick Blake Sr. On May 30, 1948 he married the love of his life, Maxine C. Schobelock, who survives. She meant the world to him, and they shared 66 years of marriage. Also surviving are his children, Gregory (Heidi) Blake, Hilliard and Diane (Emory) Gillum, Chillicothe; his Goddaughter, Jenny (Duston) Skaggs and their son CJ Skaggs, Chillicothe; grandchildren, Justin (Brittany), Matthew Gillum, Nathaniel, Ami and Ashley Blake; great-grandchildren, Keeran, Mason and Brielle "Sweet Pea" Gillum; sister, Janet Blake and Jeanie Watters, Chillicothe, Rosemary Reed, Florida, and Garnet (William) Brown, Springfield; brother, Johnnie (Janet) Blake, Florida; brothers-in-law, Bill (Sandra) and Bob Schobelock; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Amber Nicole Gillum; a brother, Manuel "Pepsi" Blake Jr.; and sisters, Marilyn Oates, Edith Diddle, and Gloria Blake. Mr. Blake was a devoted family man, and they meant the world to him. He enjoyed every minute of being with them and watching them grow up. He was a member of Tyler Memorial Church, where he served as an usher for many years. He never missed a Sunday. He loved to greet people and talk to them. He never met a stranger. He was a World War II Army veteran; and retired from Mead Paper in 1989 after 41 years of service. He loved his Ohio State Buckeyes, and working in his garden. Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails. 1 Corinthians 13: 4-8 Funeral services will be held 10:00 am Monday at the Haller Funeral Home, Pastor Don Mundy officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery. Friends may call 5-7 pm Sunday at Haller's. Memorial contributions may be made to Heartland Hospice, PO Box 400, Lucasville, OH, 45648 or Tyler Memorial Church, 260 Mill St., Chillicothe, OH 45601.
