Gwendolyn Hart

Gwendolyn M. Hart, 87, of Chillicothe, died at 7:52pm August 7, 2017, at her residence following an extended illness.  She was born on March 19, 1930, in Chillicothe, OH to the late Harry and Ethel (Gire) Williams. On November 21, 1954, she married Richard K. Hart, Sr., who preceded her in death on June 20, 2011.  Surviving is her son and daughter-in-law, Richard (Cathy) Hart, Jr., of Minerva; her two granddaughters, Jennah and Emaly Hart; and her care givers and special angels, Betty and Marie.  Gwen was a graduate of Chillicothe High School, Class of 1948. She went on to graduate from St. Joseph School of Nursing in Parkersburg, WV in 1951, and became a Certified Registered Nurse in Ohio. She started her career working at the Chillicothe Hospital as a surgical nurse from 1951-1954. She then worked at the Clinton Memorial Hospital from 1955-1958, and finally the Wilmington College as a health nurse from 1958-1960. Gwen's son Richard was born in 1960, and she became a stay at home mother for the first eighteen years of his life; attending all of his athletic events in high school and college. Gwen returned to nursing in 1980 at the Lima Convalescent Home, where she provided training and in-service for all care givers. She assisted in the formation of health services for the elementary school where her son attended. She also designed and developed plans for the retirement home she enjoyed so much. Much of her life revolved around helping others. Gwen was a member of the United Church of Christ and assisted with their Bible School Program. She was also a member of the Tyler Memorial UMC, and a member of local and state Nursing Associations. One of the highlights of her life was getting to meet President Jimmy Carter in Plains, GA. A funeral service will be held at 3:00pm on Saturday, August 12, at the Haller Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Londonderry Cemetery. Friends may call from 2:00pm on Saturday until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Tyler Memorial United Methodist Church, 260 Mill Street, Chillicothe, OH 45601.
