Gretchen L. Tippie, beloved sister, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 11th, 2026, at the age of 87. Born on April 3rd, 1939, in Chillicothe, Ohio, Gretchen lived a life full of creativity, adventure, and love, becoming a cherished member of her community and a beacon of warmth to all who knew her.
A proud graduate of Catholic Central High School, Class of 1957, Gretchen displayed a profound talent for the arts from an early age. Under the nurturing guidance of her grandmother, she started her artistic journey with oil paints and eventually mastered watercolors, creating stunning pieces that touched the hearts of many. Her artworks, admired and respected by peers and patrons alike, were complemented by her dedication to creativity during her tenure at Picture This.
Beyond her artistic pursuits, Gretchen embraced life with passion. She enjoyed bicycling through scenic trails, playing spirited rounds of tennis, and engaging in lively card games with friends and family. Her adventures took her across the United States with her husband Richard Lee Tippie. A testament to her love for travel, and she particularly cherished the time spent exploring the rich culture and history of Europe with a church group.
Gretchen's spirit and strength were inspired by the values instilled in her by her parents, Howard W. Musselman and Rosalind F. Schneider, who preceded her in death, alongside her dear husband, Richard. She is survived by her loving sister, Nora (Harold) Madru; cherished nieces, Anna Madru Cenci and Gretchen Madru Devers; and her devoted nephew, Jason Madru.
Gretchen L. Tippie will be remembered for her artistic legacy, her zest for life, and the love she shared with those around her. She will be deeply missed but forever celebrated in the hearts of her loved ones.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary Catholic Church in Chillicothe, Ohio, on Friday, August 21st, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. followed by burial at St. Margaret Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. Family and friends are invited to come together to celebrate Gretchen's life and the indelible mark she left on all who knew her.
