Grady E. Tillett, 64, of Chillicothe, passed from this life Monday morning, December 19, 2011 at his temporary home on Freedom Lane, Building 210, one of the newly remodeled buildings at the Chillicothe VA Medical Center. It was a brief stay for Grady, who was being lovingly cared for by his family and the hospital staff. Grady was born December 21, 1946 at Fort Gulick, Panama Canal Zone to the late US Army Major Scott E. and Mary Jane Raines Tillett. He is survived by his wife Barbara (BJ) and his brother Steve; daughters, Stephanie (Greg) McDowell, of Piketon, Guyanna (Scott) Erkelens, of St. Augustine, FL, Melissa (Greg) Hutton, of Chillicothe; son, Mitch (Jill) Hall, of St. Augustine, FL; grandchildren, Brittany and Craig McDowell, Cassandra Helton, Samantha and Amber Jacobs, Jordon and Rustin Hall, Christian and Nick Erkelens, Chad Hutton, Colin and Hartley Atwood; and of course, his little zippy puppy Ryleigh. Grady was the owner and manager of Buckeye Homes located on Charleston Pike in Chillicothe. He was not born in Chillicothe, yet he thought of it as his hometown. Although he and his wife BJ traveled extensively in the US and abroad, to Grady there was no place like home. As the years passed, he never wanted to leave and only traveled the familiar streets of Chillicothe. Grady proudly served his country in the US Army from 1966-1970; serving two tours in Vietnam. He considered his comrades as extended family and cherished their friendship. He was a member of the AMVETS Post 4, American Legion Post 62, and the VFW Post 108, where he was serving as a trustee. He will be greatly missed by his family and others who knew and loved him. Funeral services will be held 11:00 am Thursday, December 22, 2011 at the Haller Funeral Home, with Rev. Mark Clendaniel officiating, followed by a military tribute by the Ross Co. Veterans Honor Guard. Interment in St. Margaret Cemetery will be held at the convenience of the family. Friends may call 4-8 pm Wednesday at Haller's.
