Glenn Magill

Glenn "Red" Magill, 83, of Chillicothe, died June 28, 2013, at the Ohio State University Medical Center following an extended illness. He was born March 14, 1930, in Chillicothe, to the late A. Forrest and Gladys (Duffy) Magill. On September 15, 1950, he married the former Roberta Bradford, who survives. Also surviving are his children: Glenn "Rusty" (Svetlana), Nagshead, NC; Vicki (Steve) Anthony, Chillicothe; and Michael (Tammy) Chillicothe; Grandchildren: Brian (Kelly) Magill, Daniel (Tiffany) Magill, Katie Anthony-Brown (Eddie) ; Glenn "Trey" Magill, and Michelle (Niwat) Jaruwannakorn,; 6 great-grandchildren; brothers Ken Magill, F. William (Donna) Magill; sister Susie Carter; brother-in-law Richard Bradford; along with many nieces and nephews; and special friends Warren Henricks, Larry Ault, and Walter Behmer. He was predeceased by his son Bret Alan; his sister Mary Prince and her husband Marvin; sisters-in-law Betty (Ken) Magill and Rose (Richard) Bradford. Glenn graduated from Chillicothe High School in 1949. In 1950, Red and Roberta lived in Birch Bay Washington where he served for 4 years at Blaine Air Force Base as a radar operator. He was honorably discharged after reaching the rank of Staff Sergeant. Glenn worked for the Mead Corporation for almost 40 years, and was crew chief for number 12 machine. Red was a devoted fan of the O.S.U. Buckeyes, Cincinnati Reds and Bengals, and Chillicothe Cavaliers. He was an avid golfer, scoring 4 holes in one. He will be remembered for the hours he spent teaching golf, and helping people improve their golf game. He loved coaching, and working with youth. Red helped organize and coach the Jaycee junior golf program and the Chillicothe Manor Midgets Baseball team. He also coached the Jaycee tackle Football program, and VFW baseball. Glenn was a charter member of the Jaycee golf course. He also was a member of the Jaycee and served on their golf board for many years. In 2012, he was honored to be chosen as grand marshal of the Chillicothe Jaycee Halloween parade. Red was a member of Walnut Street UMC, American Legion Post 62, Elks Lodge 52, and the "Dimers" group of the Jaycee golf course. Besides golfing and watching his beloved sports teams, Red enjoyed his flower gardens. He took pleasure in riding his red Honda Reflux scooter. He loved to gather for breakfast with his friends at Steak and Shake. He was fond of traveling with Bert, and with his golfing buddies on their many golf trips. In his last year of his life, Red and Bert made a trip to Alaska, and to a family reunion in Nagshead. Mostly, Red cherished spending time with his family, whether it be entertaining his grandkids, family outings, or being on the golf course with his loved ones. Funeral services will be held at 7:00pm Monday, July 1, at the Haller Funeral Home with Rev. Scott Smith and Pastor Larry Ault officiating. Private graveside services will be held at the convenience of the family in Floral Hills Memory Garden. Friends may call from 4:30-7:00pm Monday at Haller Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers memorial contribution can be made to Walnut Street UMC, or First Capital District Chapter of the American Red Cross.
