Glenn Eugene Haubeil, 85, of Chillicothe, passed away from the bonds of Earth at 1:50pm on Friday, December 18, 2009, at his home after a lengthy illness, surrounded by his loving family. He fought a long and courageous battle with multiple illnesses but now rests eternally in peace. The only child of Louis E. and Mary Marie Smith Haubeil, Glenn was born November 7, 1924, in Ross County. His family moved into Chillicothe in 1931, where Glenn attended Chillicothe City Schools, graduating from Chillicothe High School in 1943. He was predeceased by his parents. In December 1943, Glenn entered the US Navy, proudly serving as Electrician's Mate Second Class aboard the destroyer, U.S.S. Haggard in the South Pacific Theatre of WWII. Prior to discharge, he served aboard the U.S.S. General C.C. Ballew, transporting military personnel from Africa returning to the United States. He was honorably discharged on May 24, 1946. Glenn studied engineering at Ohio University in Athens, OH and thereafter began his career as Water Plant Operator at the Chillicothe Municipal Water Dept. in May 1948. He retired as Chief Plant Operator in June, 1976, after 30 years of continuous employment. In July 1980, Glenn and Joyce Cunningham Peters pledged their love, devotion and faithfulness in companionship, each to the other. He was readily "adopted" into Joyce's family. She and her children, Debra (David) Graham, of Frankfort, OH; Steven (Jamie Ward) Peters, Waverly, OH; and Cindy (Scott) Benner, of Phoenix, AZ; remain behind to cherish the wonderful and unforgettable memories they made together. Glenn leaves their eight grandchildren: Heather (Heath) Richmond; Marcie (Jamie) Nash; Krista (Joey) Shiltz; Amber (Tom) Reinsmith; Brent (Brandy) Peters; Shane, Stacie and Steffie Peters; also great-grandchildren: Tia and Michael Seymour; Grace Richmond; Miranda, Haley and Jacob Nash; Hunter Sexton; Abigail and Ariel Sams; Emily Wilt; Morgan and Megan Shiltz; T. J., Holly and Mackenzie Reinsmith; Dane Peters; Mollie Peters-Waller; and Brynn Peters; a sister-in-law Marilyn Cunningham-Bruce Meyer and her husband Louis Meyer, of Shady Shores, TX. Also left to mourn his passing are two cousins Dorothy Brown Hubbard and husband, Charles Hubbard, Cincinnati, OH; along with their sons Charles, Jr., Dan, Ted, Bill and their families; John Ortman of Chillicothe; and a special friend and uncle, Paul V. McCutcheon. Glenn was predeceased by a brother-in-law, Richard Cunningham and his wife, Florence; grandson, Daniel Lee Seymour II; great-grandson, Blake Michael Alexander; and a nephew Randall Cunningham. For many of his younger years, Glenn was an avid bowler, having bowled in several leagues weekly. While his health permitted, he found joy in fishing, gardening, and spending time outdoors. He enjoyed teaching the grandkids and great-grandkids carpentry, to fish and to garden. Rarely would Glenn miss the opportunity to watch an Ohio State University football or basketball game; he was a devoted OSU fan. He and Joyce spent many delightful hours traveling throughout the United States to attend U.S.S. Haggard reunions, and to attend weekend country-western concerts and outings. Glenn was a member of the AMVETS, Post 4, Chillicothe; a Golden Eagle member of the Eagles, Aerie 600, Chillicothe; and Ohio Public Employees Retirement System Chillicothe Chapter. Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm Monday, December 21, at the Haller Funeral Home with Mr. Jamie Nash officiating. Military graveside services conducted by the AMVETS Honor Guard, Post 2256, Circleville, will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery. Glenn's family will receive friends from 11am until 1pm Monday at Haller Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, it is requested that memorial contributions be made to the Ross Co. Senior Center; Hospice at Traditions (National Church Residences); or to a charity of your choice.
