Gilbert Sewards

Gilbert S. "Besser" Sewards, 82, of Chillicothe, died 5:12 pm, Monday, October 24, 2011, at the Adena Regional Medical Center. He was born October 5, 1929 in Richmond Dale to Elmer and Rose Johnson Sewards. On October 3, 1981 he married the former Patricia L. Liggins, who survives. Also surviving is his daughter, Nellie Scarville, of Chillicothe; four step-children, Anthony Patterson, Columbus, Kirk Patterson, Macon, GA, Kathy Patterson, Tampa, FL, Robyn Banks, Chillicothe; two grandchildren, April (Jamell) Mitchell and Ivan Scarville III; step-grandchild, Amos Patterson; four great-grandchildren, Jamell and Jaihden Mitchell, Ivan Scarville IV and Ivianna Scarville; two brothers, Robert and Meyers Sewards of Chillicothe; and a sister, Betty Mickey, Columbus He was preceded in death by four sisters and a brother. Mr. Sewards retired as a dietician from the VA Medical Center. He was a World War II Army Veteran and a life member of the American Legion Post 62 and VFW Post 108. He also served several years with the Ross Co. Veterans Honor Guard. Funeral services will be held 1:00 pm Friday at the Quinn Chapel AME Church, Rev. Acie Collins officiating. Military graveside services, conducted by the Ross Co. Veterans Honor Guard, will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery. Friends may call 11-1 Friday at the church.
