Geraldine Tanner

Geraldine M. Tanner, 102, passed away peacefully December 17, 2024, at Liberty Village, Chillicothe.
She was born May 20, 1922, in Pike County, KY, to Gilbert and Minerva (Mounts) Mitchell. On September 11, 1948, she married George W. Tanner, who preceded her in death March 1, 2004.
Surviving are her children: Barbara Nowlin (John), of Chillicothe; Deborah (Jon) Bradley, of Huntington, WV, George W. Tanner, Jr., of Moscow, ID, and John M. (Brenda) Tanner, of Proctorville, OH; grandchildren: Amy McBride (Gator), Jill Nowlin (Calvin), Erin Bradley (Jake), Charlie McBride, Jared Bradley (Gabby), Sienna Tanner, Emma Tanner, Dylan Tanner, Savannah Tanner, Kristin Healy, Carrie Tanner; great-grandchildren: Adam Ruiz (Javi), Aaron Elliott (Baylee), Austin Elliott (Kylie), Serena Nowlin-Murphy, Tanner Healy, Kinsey Healy; great-great-grandchildren: Holden, Niyah, Adrian, Emmorie Elliott. She was affectionately known as "Granny" by all generations of her family.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by six siblings. Interestingly, her 3 sisters all died at the age of 102, as well.
Geraldine was a graduate of Phelps High School in Kentucky. Prior to her marriage, she was a "Rosie the Riveter" during WWII, working at a defense plant in Elkton, MD. While raising her family, she worked as a piano instructor and taught into her 90's. She was a member of Walnut St. UMC for over 50 years and in her later years attended Faith Chapel.
Geraldine's passion in life was her family. She was devoted to them and loved them all with unbounded devotion, especially the youngest ones. She included many friends and dozens of her piano students in her definition of family. She particularly enjoyed her association with her caregivers of Liberty Village and Adena Hospice, whom she also considered her extended family.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be given to a charity of your choice.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00pm January 10, at the Haller Funeral Home & Crematory with Pastor Tom Kramer officiating. Private inurnment will take place in Floral Hills Memory Gardens.
