Gerald Poindexter

Gerald L. Poindexter, 82, of Chillicothe, died at 11:55pm Thursday, January 5, 2006, in the Veterans Affairs Medical Center. He was born September 5, 1923, in Columbus, OH, to the late Asa and Ruth (Banks) Poindexter. On May 15, 1947, he married the former Pearl S. Beard, who survives. Also surviving are his son Gerald Poindexter II, Chillicothe; son and daughter-in-law David (Janet) Poindexter, M.D., of Houston, TX; grandchildren David Poindexter, Crista Thomas, Gerald Poindexter III, all of Chillicothe; Nicholas Govia, and Asha Govia, both of Houston; great-grandchildren Patrick Thomas, Leanna Thomas, and Christopher Jones; a sister Marion Netter, all of Chillicothe; and a special friend Sara Gilbert, of Columbus. He was predeceased by his brother Earl Poindexter. Gerald served his country as a Sergeant in the Army for four years during WWII. He then served in the Army Reserves for 18 years. He retired from the Mead Corporation in 1988, where he worked as a stationary engineer. He was a member of the Mead Local 731 and a member of St. Mary Catholic Church. Private graveside services at the convenience of family are under the direction of Haller Funeral Home. At his request, calling hours will not be observed.
