Gerald Congrove

Gerald (Gary) Wayne Congrove Jr., age 70, died on June 9, 2022, at Berger Hospital in the presence of his daughters after an extended illness. Gary was born on October 31, 1951 in Chillicothe to Gerald (Jack) W. Congrove Sr. and Clara Michaels Matheny who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his step-father Harry Matheny and mother and father-in-law Carl and Betty Secrest.  In addition, he was preceded by his nephew Collin Matheny and his step-son Michael (Joe) Amrine and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.  He is survived by his wife Clara Jane (CJ) Secrest Congrove. Gary was a proud father and grandfather and is also survived by daughters: Angela (Hoyt) Martin, Cynthia Dresbach, and Beth (David) Chaffin and grandchildren: Olivia (Evan Seitz) and Brandon (Alyssa Jenkins) Dresbach, Kelsey (Tony) Bridenbaugh, Robin (Shane) Coleman, Joseph and Hannah Chaffin, and his step-children James "Mick" (Melynda) Amrine and Veronica (Mark) Stevenson. In addition, he is survived by his brothers Charles Congrove, Douglas (Missy) Matheny, his sister Vicki Congrove, and three great-grandchildren, as well as, Aunt Winnie Helwig, Uncle Walter Jinks, Sr., eleven step-grandchildren, special cousins from the Hayburn family and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was a proud graduate of Bishop Flaget High School, Class of 1969 and Chillicothe Business College. Gary retired from Gladfelter/Mead six years ago. He was a lifelong member of the Roman Catholic Church.  The family would like to thank Father Ted Machnik and Father Milton Kiocha for their spiritual support in Gary's final days. Gary was also a racing fan and an avid supporter of Notre Dame athletics.   Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11am Tuesday, June 14, at St. Mary Church, Rev. Jacob Stinnett, Celebrant.  Burial will follow in St. Margaret Cemetery.  Friends may call from 9am until 10:30am Tuesday at the Haller Funeral Home & Crematory.
