George Young

George Condron Young, 89, of Chillicothe, OH, died April, 21, 2018, at his residence, at Westmoreland Place, in Chillicothe.   He was born February 17, 1929, in Verona, PA, to the late Arthur J. and Olive F. Young. On December 1, 1951, he married Barbara Susanne Eamigh, who predeceased him in 2015. George is survived by his daughter Sheryl Cullen, of Elyria, OH; sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. Mark (Darcy Hunt) Young, Mooresville, NC, Larry (Yvonne) Young, Chillicothe; grandchildren, Dr. Erik (Julie) Ellingsworth, Amy (Greg) Thomas, Bethany (Mark) Nelson, and Megan Young; great-grandchildren, Rachel Thomas, Sara Thomas and Rhyder Nelson. He was predeceased by a sister and 2 brothers; and is survived by a sister and 2 brothers-in law, Florence (Young) Kirby, William Kirby and James Baird.   George retired from Ohio Department of Transportation where he worked as a professional Engineer for 40 years. At the time of his retirement, he held the position of Deputy Director and Chief Engineer of Construction for the State of Ohio. He was a former member of Walnut St. United Methodist Church in Chillicothe. He served as Chairman of Trustees for the church, was a member of the Capital Club in Columbus, United States Golf Association and several Engineering Organizations throughout his career. He enjoyed playing golf, attending pro golf tournaments and wood working. He served as a 1st Lt. in the US Army Corp of Engineers during the Korean War. George volunteered at the VA Hospital in Chillicothe for 25 years prior to retiring to Florida. George and Sue moved to Wimauma, FL in 1999 before returning to Ohio in 2012.   Public graveside services , conducted by his son, Dr. Mark Young and the Ross Co. Veterans Honor Guard, will be held 2:00 pm Sunday, April 29, 2018, at Grandview Cemetery. Calling hours will not be observed. In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions may be made to Westmoreland Place, 230 Cherry St., Chillicothe, OH, 45601.
