George T. Tyler Jr. George T. "Tom" Tyler, Jr., 64, of Chillicothe, passed away in the VA Medical Center, Chillicothe, July 28, 2007 at 6:00 pm, following an extended illness. Funeral services will be held 1:00 pm Friday in the Haller Funeral Home, with Rev. Winks officiating. Military graveside services, conducted by the Ross Co. Veterans Honor Guard, will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery. Friends may call 5-8 pm Thursday at Haller's. He was born April 1, 1943 to the late George T. and Betty R. Oakes Tyler. Survivors include his wife of 18 years, Helen (Wright) Tyler; his daughter, Melissa Tyler-Tanksley, of Columbus, OH; step-daughter, Tracy Jones, of Reynoldsburg, OH; his brother, Stephen (Karen) Tyler, of Emerado, ND; his sister, Letitia (Tish) Tyler-Boydston, Rochester, NY; cousions, Bill (Liz) Scott, of Chillicothe, and Jule (Nikki) Scott, of Kent, OH; two granddaughters, Crystal Tanksley and Christina Schoolfield, of Columbus, OH; nieces, Tequina Boydston, Stephanie Peques, Sabrina Tyler, and Kelly Teal and a special friend and caretaker, Glen Anderson. George served in the US Army, completing two Tours of Duty (1962-1967 and 1967-1969) in the Korean Conflict and Vietnam War as a gunner receiving five Honors of Distinction. He retired from the VA Medical Center as a nursing assistant. Following his time in service to his country, George returned home wanting to give back to the community by volunteering, helping and serving his time on the boards of the Scioto Paint Valley Mental Health Center, ADAMH (Alcohol, Drug Addiction and Mental Health), and the Adult Parole Authority. He later continued to work by helping those of less fortune and in a time of need by directing the Home Between Homes. George was a well liked man and a true soldier in his time.
