George "Red" Manley Mitten, 90, of Chillicothe, passed away early Monday morning, April 9, 2018, at his home following an extended illness. He was born March 22, 1928 in Ross County to the late George M. and Naomi E. (Lightle) Mitten. On October 19, 1952, he married Dora Jane (Rash) Mitten, who survives. Also surviving are their children, Diana J. Swords, of Kingman, AZ, Gloria M. (Don MacPherson) Mitten, of Columbia, MO, and James A. (Eric Fenwick) Mitten, of Chillicothe; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Manley was preceded in death by a brother and sister-in-law Gerald E. (Mildred) Mitten, his sister and brother-in-law Evelyn N. (Abner) Cash, and his son-in-law, Jerry Swords. Manley was a graduate of Southeastern High School, and went on to serve in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He worked as a motor repairman for Duffy Electric before retiring. He attended the Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church. A memorial service will be held at 1:00pm on Saturday, April 21, 2018 at Mt. Carmel UMC, 5014 Charleston Pike, Chillicothe, with Pastor Michael Rhoads officiating. Military graveside honors will be performed at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Mt. Carmel UMC in his honor.
