Rev. Mr. George L. Lovensheimer, 80, of Chillicothe, died unexpectedly, 1:22 am, Friday, March 4, 2011, at Westmoreland Place Nursing Home, following a battle with lung cancer. He was born July 7, 1930 in Chillicothe to Howard and Bernadine Buchanan Lovensheimer. On July 3, 1954 he married the former Mary Eileen Corcoran, who survives. Also surviving are his three daughters, Lisa (Walter) Jinks, of Lancaster, Sarah (Bruce) Gray, of Chillicothe, and Heidi Lovensheimer, of Londonderry; his two sons, Fritz (Rhonda) Lovensheimer, of Grove City and George (Linda) Lovensheimer Jr., of Chillicothe; eight grandchildren, Hannah (David) Butta, Allison (Ben) Swanger, Emma Jinks, Brittany and Brett Gray, Peter, Tiffany, and Greg Lovensheimer; two step-grandchildren, Jennifer and Christopher Robinson; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Marjorie (Richard) Talbott, of Florida; sisters-in-law, Barbara Lovensheimer, of Wisconsin, Kay (Richard) Wolf, of Columbus and Joanne Corcoran, of Chillicothe; a brother-in-law, David (Barbara) Corcoran, of Illinois; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Glenn Lovensheimer. George was ordained a Roman Catholic Deacon in 1986 and served at St. Mary Church for 25 years. He was a graduate of Chillicothe High School and the Diocese of Columbus Diaconal School of Theology. He had retired from Mead Paper after 42 years of service and served on the Ross Co. Fair Board for 10 years. He was active with Habitat for Humanity as a board member and was the St. Mary Church St. Vincent DePaul Society Spiritual Director. He enjoyed farming, raising sheep, gardening, bird watching and was an avid fisherman and card player. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00 am Tuesday at St. Mary Church, Rev. Lawrence Hummer and Rev. Shawn Corcoran, Celebrants. Burial will follow in St. Margaret Cemetery. Friends may call 1-3 or 5-8 pm Monday at Haller Funeral Home, where a wake service will be held at 8:00 pm. In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions be made to the St. Mary Church St. Vincent DePaul Society, Habitat for Humanity or Bishop Flaget School.
