George W. Haubeil, 75, of Chillicothe, died at 10:00pm Saturday, April 10, 2010, in Adena Regional Medical Center following an extended battle with Lou Gehrig's Disease. He was born December 19, 1934, in Waverly, OH, to the late Henry F. and Martha K. Patterson Haubeil. On August 25, 1956, he married the former June Carol Stewart, who survives. Also surviving are his son and daughter-in-law Daniel and Tracy (Morgan) Haubeil; daughter and son-in-law Joanna and M. David Smith and his grandchildren, who were the light of his life, Gabriel George and Claire Elizabeth Smith, all of Chillicothe; brothers and sisters-in-law H. Frederick (Ira Jean) Haubeil; Robert (Betty) Haubeil; and Lewis "Butch" (Katie) Haubeil, all of Chillicothe; sisters and brothers-in-law Joyce Ann (Ronald) Cuckler; and Ida Jean (Ronald) Ballard, all of Waverly; several nieces and nephews; and a sister-in-law Edna Stewart Burton, Chillicothe. The family would also like to extend a special thanks to his crew of loving caregivers, especially "his No. 1" Rachel Higgins. He was predeceased by an infant sister Jane Haubeil; and his special friend Everett Carver. George's career began in road construction with VN Holderman, rising to the position of General Superintendent with Hi-Way Paving. In 1977, he and his brothers, Robert and Lewis "Butch," started Haubeil & Sons Inc., a successful construction, mining and asphalt production business. He was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church where he was a former trustee and usher. He was a member of Scioto Lodge No. 6, F & AM. Despite his 3 year battle with ALS, George never lost his sense of humor or his enthusiasm for life. Family and friends are invited to attend a casual dress graveside service which will be conducted at 12:00pm Wednesday, April 14, in Grandview Cemetery, with Pastors James Cuckler and Rick Hartley officiating. Following the graveside committal, the family will host a reception at the pond by his home on Maple Lane. Friends may call from 11am until Noon Wednesday at the cemetery prior to the graveside service. Arrangements are under the direction of Haller Funeral Home.
