Dr. George W. Boll, 90, of Chillicothe, died at home, Sunday, January 8, 2023, following an extended illness. Born March 23, 1932, to Elizabeth and George T. Boll in Rochester, New York. He graduated from Wellsville High School in New York. He attended the University of Rochester where he studied the girls, ginmills and football. His grades reflected this. While at the University of Rochester, he was a part of Platoon Leaders Class in the United States Marine Corps at Paris Island, South Carolina. The Marine Corp taught him discipline and responsibility. This motivated him to know he could do better and go to medical school. He transferred to Alfred University, New York and graduated Cum Laude in 1955 which allowed him to be accepted to several medical schools. He graduated from Case Western Reserve, Cleveland in 1959. He served his internship and residency at Syracuse University. He practiced surgery in upstate New York then attended McMaster University, Hamilton, Ontario for advanced training in vascular and thoracic surgery as a Fellow. He returned to Olean, New York to practice surgery until 1981. He moved to Chillicothe in 1981 and practiced until his retirement in 2002. He was always "on the cutting edge", bringing new surgeries and techniques to Olean and Chillicothe.
He hit a homerun when he married Ruth Porter Boll, who survives. He also leaves behind his children, Dana Boll, of Cincinnati, Jennifer Boll, of St. Petersburg, FL; a son Greg Boll, of Columbus, and Tye and Jennifer Williams, of Chillicothe. He was proud to be the Papaw to Jordan (Hannah), Cade, Lilly, and Caleb Williams who brought him much joy. He loved watching them play sports and was proud to wear his Cavalier shirts to their games. He was also Great Papaw to Artemis Williams.
George was a member of the American College of Surgeons, American Board of Surgeons, Ross County Medical Association, Chillicothe Country Club where he was President of Geezers United.
Very special thanks to Promedica Hospice that provide comfort and care during George's illness and end of life. His hospice nurses, Amy, Susan, Kenzie and nurse aides, Brandon, Jessica and Shelly gave outstanding care to George and support to Ruth and the family.
Following cremation, a memorial service will be held 2:30 PM, Friday, January 13, 2023 at the Haller Funeral Home & Crematory. Memorial contributions may be made to the Chillicothe Cavalier Club, 421 Yoctangee Parkway, Chillicothe, OH 45601.
