Gene Paul Bryan, 81, of Chillicothe, passed away September 19, 2021, at the OSU Wexner Medical Center, following a brief illness.
He was born April 1, 1940 in Chillicothe, to the late Paul and Alice Hopper Bryan. On June 2, 1962 he married the love of his life, Carolyn Bryan, who survives. Also surviving is his precious son Mark (Amy) Bryan; and grandchildren, Cody (Julia) Bryan, Craig (Ciara) Bryan, Danielle (Hart) Trusty, Ashley (Layne) Stockham, and Emily Morris. He was so proud of his grandchildren and loved being involved in their activities. Also surviving is a sister, Linda (Jack) Burns; a brother, James Bryan; several nieces and nephews; brothers-in-law, Gary (Becky) Dyke and Roger Davis; and a sister-in-law, Diana (Dallas) Taylor. He also leaves behind special friends, Ron and Juanita Uhrig, John and Carolyn Bowers, Jerry and Nancy Long, and many others.
Gene graduated from Chillicothe High School in 1958. He loved getting together with his classmates and going to Phil Dirt and the Dozers concerts. He was a US Army veteran and served in Germany. Gene retired from Mead Paper in 2003 following 40 years of service. He built numerous houses and helped many friends with their homes. Gene and Wayne Haines laid up the first dugout at Huntington's baseball diamond at the new athletic complex. Gene was also well known as a D.J., "Mean Gene", playing 45 records for 40 years for the Igniters Hot Rod Club and antique car club; at the Sunflower Festival; and at McDonald's Cruise In's. He was looking forward to his 2022 Cincinnati Reds spring training trip to Arizona with John Bowers.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 am Friday at the Haller Funeral Home & Crematory, Pastors Aaron Long and Michael Blevins officiating. Military graveside services, conducted by the Ross Co. Veterans Honor Guard, will follow in Twin Twp. Cemetery. Friends may call 4:00-7:00 pm Thursday at Haller's.
