Gary Stevens

Gary W. Stevens, 71, was at home when he lost his battle to pancreatic cancer at 5:00am Thursday, December 25, 2014. He was born June 4, 1943, in Bainbridge, OH, to the late Charles H. and Margaret (Countryman) Stevens. On May 11, 1990, he married to former Debora Stokes, who survives. Also surviving are his daughter and son-in-law Jessica (Zach) Detty, of Chillicothe; a friend who was like a son to him, Dusty Routte; grandchildren: Chelsea Johnson, Athens; Chloe Detty and Nathanial Detty, both of Chillicothe; brothers: Don (Bev) Stevens, Chillicothe; Harold (Amelia) Stevens, Kingston; Gerald (Dianna) Stevens, Greenfield; and John Henry Stevens, Bainbridge; several nieces and nephews including special niece Kelli Stevens Donahue; and special nephews Jimmy and Owen Donahue; his special aunt Louise Bordon, of Hillsboro; and two spoiled dogs Bridgette and Shelby. Gary was a retired Chief Master Sergeant with the US Air Force. He graduated from Paint Valley High School, Class of 1961. He was a member of the American Legion, Post 14, where he served as Adjutant. He played in a monthly poker group and enjoyed bowling in his league. He was a strong and loving man and will be greatly missed. Gary loved to laugh and play cards and was a huge Cleveland Browns and Cincinnati Reds fan. His memorial service will be held at 5:00pm Tuesday, December 30, at Haller Funeral Home with military honors conducted by the Wright Patterson AFB Honor Guard. Burial will be held in Arlington National Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Friends may call from 4-5pm Tuesday at Haller Funeral Home.
