It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Gary L. Sherwood, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. Born on December 14, 1944, Gary peacefully departed this world on Monday, October 12, 2026, at the age of 81, surrounded by his loved ones.
Gary led a remarkable life characterized by a deep sense of humility, uniqueness, and care. Growing up in the region, he was a proud member of the Southeastern High School graduating class of 1963. Following his education, Gary dedicated over 32 years of his professional life to Eastern Avenue Lumber, where he formed lasting friendships and left a legacy of hard work and dedication.
An ardent Ohio State Buckeye football fan, Gary's love for the team was rivaled only by his devotion to his family and community. He found joy in the simple pleasures of life and was known for his unwavering generosity and kind-hearted spirit.
Gary was united in marriage to his sweetheart, Sandra (Rideout) Sherwood, for an inspiring 58 years. Together, they built a beautiful family and life filled with love and companionship. Gary is survived by his devoted wife, Sandra; his cherished sons, Matthew (Rene) Sherwood and Jeremy Sherwood; and his treasured grandchildren, MaKayla, Keelan, and Josie, and his great-grandchildren, CJ and Athena.
Gary is also survived by his loving siblings, Larry, Sue (Norm) , and Scott (Ruby). He was preceded in death by his parents, Gerald and Lucille (Harper) Sherwood, who undoubtedly welcomed him with open arms beyond this life.
In honor of Gary's generosity, the family requests that donations be made to the Richmond Dale Church of God Building Fund in lieu of flowers. This gesture would be greatly appreciated and consistent with Gary's lifelong commitment to giving back.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Haller Funeral Home & Crematory. Though he will be dearly missed, Gary's spirit and memory will continue to guide and inspire all who knew him. A Celebration of Gary's life will be held at a later date.
May he rest in eternal peace.
