Gary Alan Doles, 69, passed away early Monday morning, October 5, 2020, at his home, surrounded by his loving family following a brief illness.
He was born February 20, 1951 in Vinton County, Ohio, son of the late James and Mary (Ray) Doles. On June 6, 1984, he married Patricia Ann (Detty) Doles, and together they shared over 36 wonderful years of marriage.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Bryla L. (Tim) Elder; his step-daughter, Kelly J. (Steve Hill) Stephens; his step-son, Lee W. Stephens, Jr.; five grandchildren, Lee Stephens III, Jacob Stephens, Tylor (Nicole) Stephens, McKenzie Doles-Payton, and AJ Doles-Payton; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Barb (Roger) Edler, and Donna Doles; his special friends, Leon (Jean) Cole, Michael (Linda) Nicholes, and Greg (Kim) Roberts; as well as his two canine companions, Ozzy and Jane. In addition to his parents Jim and Mary Doles, he was preceded in death by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ralph (Edith) Detty.
Gary enlisted in the United States Army at the age of 19, where he honorably served during the Vietnam war from 1971-1973. He went on to work at the VA Medical Center in Chillicothe in Environmental Management where he later retired. In his free time, he could be found outside working around his property, going hunting and fishing.
In accordance with his wishes, there will be no public services. Private Military Graveside Honors will be conducted at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to any Veterans Organization of the donor's choice in his honor.
