Garnet Irene Uhrig, 95, of Chillicothe, passed away at 9:55am on Wednesday, March 11, 2015 at Westmoreland Place surrounded by her beloved family. She was born August 4, 1919 in Vinton County, to the late William Elmer and Nellie May (Matheney) Graves. On March 27, 1937, she married William Allen Uhrig who preceded her in death on December 10, 1992. Garnet is survived by her three children, Sally (Donald) Nichols, of Chillicothe, William A. Uhrig, of Lake White, and James (Linda) Uhrig, of Pompano Beach, FL; her grandchildren, David (Sarah) Nichols, Trish (Eric) Rinehart, Tara (Kelly) Kight, Beth Ann Uhrig, Scott Uhrig, and Todd Uhrig; seven great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Garnet was preceded in death by a son, Ronald P. Uhrig, a grandson, Mark Uhrig, four sisters, Martha Wright, Mary Tinker, Opal Higley, and Inez Boring; and five brothers, Oakley, Chauncey, John, Elmer, and Thomas Graves. Mrs. Uhrig graduated from Chillicothe High School, class of 1936. She retired from the City of Chillicothe Water Department in 1984, and dearly loved attending Holy Trinity Church in Waverly. Garnet was a loving, family oriented person who held her family as the most precious thing in her life. The family would like to extend their deepest thanks to the wonderful staff at Westmoreland Place for their years of gracious and loving care. They would also like to thank the excellent Hospice Team as well. Funeral services will be held at 10:00am on Monday, March 16, 2015 at the Haller Funeral Home with Rev. Danny Eitel officiating. Burial will follow in Floral Hills Memory Gardens. Friends may call Sunday March 15, from 2:00pm-5:00pm at the Haller Funeral Home.
